Siempre me ha gustado la Historia

Mi madre no tuvo la oportunidad de estudiar, pero decidió que nunca dejaría de aprender y, sobre todo, de leer. Lee cuanto cae en sus manos, pero sobre todo disfruta con la Historia. Una pasión que siempre ha transmitido a sus hijos, incluso cuando sus problemas de visión apenas se lo permiten o cuando a veces el texto no es sencillo (ej. mis propias obras). Nunca le ha importado, ama leer, aunque suponga un esfuerzo enorme, aunque sea una sola línea al día. Por eso, y por tantas cosas, siempre la he admirado.

A pesar de todo, mi primera vocación fue el Derecho; sin embargo, mientras estudiaba en la Univ. Complutense de Madrid nunca dejé de ver a mi madre, y sobre todo a mi hermana, devorar libros cada día. Probablemente vivir rodeado de Historia finalmente despertó esa pasión en mi que hasta entonces se había mantenido latente, esperando el momento propicio, y decidí que entender el presente, y atisbar el futuro, era imposible sin conocer el pasado.

Ahora sé que mi vocación siempre estuvo ahí, y finalmente se convirtió en aspiración. Quise disfrutar cada minuto mientras aprendía, pero también obtener conocimiento de los mejores expertos en cada materia, aun cuando fuera necesario peregrinar por las universidades de Alcalá, La Laguna, Autónoma de Madrid y Complutense de Madrid, donde impartían clase.

I have always loved history

My mother did not have the opportunity to study, but decided that she would never stop learning and, above all, reading. She reads everything she can get her hands on, but above all she enjoys history. A passion she has always shared with her children, even when her eyesight problems hardly allow her to do so or when sometimes the text is not easy (e.g. my own works). She has never minded, she loves to read, even if it means an enormous effort, even if it is only one line a day. For that, and for so many other things, I have always admired her.

However, my first choice was Law; nevertheless, while I was studying at the Complutense University of Madrid I never stopped seeing my mother, and above all my sister, devouring books every day. Probably living surrounded by History finally awakened that passion in me that until then had remained latent, waiting for the right moment, and I decided that understanding the present, and looking into the future, was impossible without knowing the past.

I now know that my passion was always there, and it finally became an aspiration. I wanted to enjoy every minute while learning, but also to gain knowledge from the best experts in each subject, even if it was necessary to make a pilgrimage to the universities of Alcalá, La Laguna, Autónoma de Madrid and Complutense de Madrid, where they taught.

Obtuve la Licenciatura en Historia por la Universidad Complutense de Madrid en 2011, con la nota más alta de mi especialidad en Historia Antigua (9,28 - 26 SB y 14 MH), y un año más tarde obtuve el título de Máster en Historia y Ciencias de la Antigüedad en la especialidad de Egipto y Oriente Próximo (Campus de Excelencia) impartido por la Univ. Complutense de Madrid y la Univ. Autónoma de Madrid, también el primero de mi promoción (9,41 - 9 SB, 3 MH). Meses más tarde, comencé mi Doctorado en Estudios del Mundo Antiguo con Mención Internacional en las Universidades Autónoma y Complutense de Madrid, con el apoyo del Ministerio de Educación (programa de Formación del Profesorado Universitario, FPU) y de la Fundación Universitaria Oriol Urquijo. En 2019 obtuve el Doctorado Internacional con la calificación de Sobresaliente Cum Laude por unanimidad.

Es probablemente por la infinita admiración que siempre he sentido por mi madre y mi hermana que he intentado centrar mi labor en la investigación y difusión de los estudios de género, mucho antes de que alcanzaran su más que necesaria difusión actual. Y nunca olvidaré el sentimiento que provocó en mi conocer el mito griego de las amazonas gracias a la obra de Steven Pressfield, cuando aún estudiaba Derecho. Quizá por ello quise dedicar todos mis esfuerzos a fomentar el conocimiento de la mujer en la Antigüedad, y mi tesis doctoral se convirtió en el mayor estudio sobre los relatos amazónicos en los últimos 70 años. Desde que el clasicista alemán Dietrich von Bothmer dedicó su vida al conocimiento de los restos artísticos dedicados al universo amazónico en la Antigua Grecia (1.000 registros en 1957), decidí continuar su labor gracias a los descubrimientos arqueológicos realizados desde entonces y me llevó 7 años crear la base de datos sobre obras artísticas y referencias clásicas más completa que existe en la actualidad (más de 4.500 registros).

No solo eso. Como poderosas guerreras, las amazonas me llevaron a admirar los estudios bélicos en la Antigüedad y muy pronto comencé a publicar artículos académicos cuando aún no había terminado mi licenciatura. Por entonces conocí a mi gran amigo y mentor, Ignacio Pasamar (Editor de HRM Ediciones), quien me animó a escribir ensayos históricos rigurosos pero accesibles para el gran público, destinados a cubrir todos aquellos temas de la Historia menos conocidos, olvidados y distorsionados más allá de las obras generalistas o los manuales. Ese fue el germen de mi primera obra, dedicada a Filipo II de Macedonia. Ni siquiera había terminado mi licenciatura y ya había cumplido un sueño que nunca creí posible, publicar un libro. Mucho menos que sería el primero de muchos.

Pocos historiadores tienen esa oportunidad en toda una vida, pero gracias a ella hoy por hoy he escrito ensayos históricos que suman miles de copias vendidas, mis aportaciones han recibido mas de 118.000 visitas y cerca de 3.500 seguidores en Academia.edu y he colaborado con editoriales españolas, argentinas, inglesas, italianas y brasileñas en tan solo unos años.

He publicado artículos en medios académicos españoles, latinoamericanos, franceses, ingleses e italianos (como Latomus, Erga Logoi, Ars Bilduma, New Classicist, Thersites, el Instituto de Historia y Cultura Militar del Ministerio de defensa, la Consejería Cultural de la Embajada de la R.I de Irán en Madrid o el Boletín del Museo Arqueológico Nacional), y divulgativos para Historia de la Guerra, Desperta Ferro, National Geographic Historia (ES) y su versión en US (National Geographic History). He participado en numerosos congresos nacionales e internacionales en España, Chile, Argentina, Brasil, Italia, Francia, UK, Suráfrica, Portugal, Georgia, Turquía, Irlanda y España, y colaborado en varios proyectos de investigación financiados por la Univ. Complutense de Madrid y el Ministerio de Educación.

I got my BA in History at the Complutense University of Madrid in 2011, with the highest score in Ancient History (9.28 - 26 A and 14 A+), and a year later I got my MA in Ancient History and Sciences in the specialization of Egypt and Near East (Campus of Excellence) taught by the Complutense University of Madrid and the Autonomous University of Madrid, also the first of my graduating class (9.41 - 9 A, 3 A+). Months later, I started my PhD in Ancient World Studies with International Mention at the Autonomous and Complutense Universities of Madrid, with the support of the Ministry of Education (University Teacher Training Programme, FPU) and the Oriol Urquijo University Foundation. In 2019 I got the International PhD with the qualification of Summa Cum Laude unanimously.

It is probably because of the infinite admiration I have always felt for my mother and sister that I have tried to focus my work on the research and transfer of gender studies, long before its current spread. And I will never forget what I felt when I first heard about the Greek myth of the Amazons thanks to Steven Pressfield, when I was still a law student. Perhaps that is why I wanted to devote all my efforts to furthering the knowledge of women in antiquity, and my PhD thesis became the largest study of Amazon myths in the last 70 years. Since the German classicist Dietrich von Bothmer devoted his life to the knowledge of the artistic remains dedicated to the Amazon universe in Ancient Greece (locating more than 1,000 records in 1957), I decided to continue his work thanks to the archaeological discoveries made since then and it took me 7 years to create the most complete database on artistic works and classical references that exists today (more than 4,500 entries).

Not only that. As powerful warriors, the Amazons led me to admire war studies in Antiquity and I soon began to publish academic articles when I had not yet finished my Bachelor's degree. At that time I met my great friend and mentor, Ignacio Pasamar (Editor of HRM Ediciones), who encouraged me to write rigorous but accessible historical essays for the general public, aimed at covering all those lesser-known, forgotten and distorted topics of History beyond generalist works or manuals. That was the germ of my first work, dedicated to Philip II of Macedon. I had not even finished my Bachelor's degree and I had already fulfilled a dream I had never thought possible, to publish a book. Much less did I imagine that it would be the first of many.

Not many historians have that opportunity in a lifetime, but thanks to it I have written historical essays that have sold thousands of copies, my contributions have received more than 118,000 visits and nearly 3,500 followers on Academia.edu, and I have collaborated with Spanish, Argentine, English, Italian and Brazilian publishers in just a few years.

I have published academic papers in Spanish, Latin American, French, English and Italian publishers (such as Latomus, Erga Logoi, Ars Bilduma, New Classicist, Thersites, the Institute of Military History and Culture of the Ministry of Defence, the Cultural Council of the Iranian Embassy in Madrid or the Bulletin of the National Archaeological Museum), and transfer papers for Historia de la Guerra, Desperta Ferro, Historia National Geographic (ES) and its US version (National Geographic History). I have participated in different national and international conferences in Spain, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Italy, France, UK, South Africa, Portugal, Georgia, Turkey, Ireland and Spain, and collaborated in several research projects funded by the Complutense University of Madrid and the Ministry of Education.

Mis líneas de investigación se relacionan con la Historia Antigua de Grecia, Roma, Egipto y Oriente Próximo, especialmente orientadas a las relaciones de género, las religiones, los conflictos, las relaciones interculturales y la arqueología del paisaje.

Durante este tiempo he tenido la oportunidad de aprender y colaborar permanentemente con expertos de reconocido prestigio nacional e internacional, y especialmente a través de estancias de investigación en instituciones académicas como la Oxford Univ. (2015), el Institute for Classical Archaeology and Byzantine Archaeology de la Universität Heidelberg (2018), el Centre for Research on Ancient Civilizations de la Univ. of Warsaw (2021), la American School of Classical Studies at Athens (2021), el Instituto de Historia Antigua, Medieval y Moderna "Profesor José Luis Romero" de la Univ. de Buenos Aires (2022), la Universidad del País Vasco UPV/EHU (2023), el Dep. of Languages, Culture and Civilisation of the Black Sea Countries de la Democritus Univ. of Thrace (2023) y he colaborado en las excavaciones de las tumbas reales en Vergina (Grecia) dirigidas por la Aristotle University of Thessaloniki y el Interdisciplinary Centre for Archaeological Studies (2016).

Soy miembro de los Grupos de Investigación ESCHATIA "Delimitación territorial y fronteras: el papel de la religión en los conflictos entre póleis" (Universidad Complutense de Madrid) y DEMETER "Maternidad, género y familia en la Antigüedad" (Universidad de Oviedo).

He sido acreditado por la ANECA como Prof. Ayudante Doctor, Prof. Contratado Doctor y Prof. de Univ. Privada (2019), impartiendo docencia universitaria nacional e internacional: Grados de Historia y Arqueología (UCM, 2015-17); Carrera de Historia (UBA, 2022); Grados de Historia y Filología (UPV/EHU, 2023), curso universitario impartido en Brasil por las Univsiversidades Estadual do Paraná, do Estado do Río de Janeiro, de Pernambuco, y Federal de Mato Grosso do Sul (2019-20), y desde febrero del 2022 como Prof. Ayudante Doctor en la Univ. Isabel I de Castilla. Hasta el curso 2022-23, he tutorizado 8 TFM y dirigido 7 tribunales de evaluación de 32 TFM.

Entre 2015-2021 he participado en la evaluación y acreditación de investigadores, proyectos y actividades de investigación, seguimiento de programas de Doctorado, Evaluación de Subvenciones para Estancias de Personal Inv. Doctor (BEST) y Subvenciones para la Organización y Difusión de Congresos, Jornadas y Reuniones Científicas, Tecnológicas, Humanísticas o Artísticas Internacionales (AORG) con las agencias autonómicas Fundación Madri+d, Agència per la Qualitat del Sistema Univ. de Catalunya (AQU Catalunya) y Agència Valenciana d'Avaluació i Prospectiva (AVAP). Formo parte de la base de datos de evaluadores de la mayoría de agencias calificadoras de la calidad universitaria. De hecho, recientemente he cursado mi solicitud para formar parte del Banco de expertos colaboradores de la AEI (BECA) para seguir colaborando en este sentido.

Soy miembro de las asociaciones científicas Egiptología Complutense (Univ. Complutense de Madrid), Grupo Barbaricvm (Univ. Complutense de Madrid) e HISTOREL (Univ. de La Laguna), así como miembro del Consejo Consultivo de la Revista de Antigüedades Nearco (Brasil), editada por El Dep. de Historia Antigua de la Univ. do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (UERJ), ISSN 1982-8713 y revisor de la revista New Classicist (Inst. of Classical Studies. Univ. of London). Además, formo parte de la extensa red de profesionales que componen Divulgadores de la Historia, dedicada a fomentar el ejercicio de una divulgación de calidad y rigurosa de la Historia en nuestra sociedad, y extender el conocimiento de nuestro pasado y de nuestro Patrimonio Histórico. En este sentido, he colaborado en programas de radio (Cadena SER, RTV Principado de Asturias, Onda Madrid y Capital Radio), y organizando eventos culturales de interés turístico internacional para la defensa del patrimonio material e inmaterial (Arde Lucus; Fiestas Iberorromanas de Cástulo; Arte et Marte).

Durante mi docencia en los Grados de Historia y Arqueología de la Univ. Complutense de Madrid cuando descubrí mi verdadera vocación. Enseñar y compartir.

My research interests are related to the Ancient History of Greece, Rome, Egypt and the Near East, with a special focus on gender relations, religions, conflicts, intercultural relations and landscape archaeology.

During this time, I had the chance to learn and collaborate closely with experts of national and international prestige, especially through research internships at Oxford Univ. (2015), the Institute for Classical Archaeology and Byzantine Archaeology of the Universität Heidelberg (2018), the Centre for Research on Ancient Civilizations at the Univ. of Warsaw (2021), the American School of Classical Studies at Athens (2021), the Institute of Ancient, Medieval and Modern History "Profesor José Luis Romero" of the University of Buenos Aires (2022), the University of the Basque Country UPV/EHU (2023), the Department of Languages, Culture and Civilisation of the Black Sea Countries of the Democritus University of Thrace (2024), and I have collaborated in the excavations of the Royal Tombs in Vergina (Greece) directed by the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the Interdisciplinary Centre for Archaeological Studies (2016).

I am a member of the Research Groups ESCHATIA "Territorial delimitation and borders: the role of religion in the conflicts between póleis" (Complutense University of Madrid) and DEMETER "Maternity, gender and family in Antiquity" (University of Oviedo).

I´ have been accredited by ANECA as Prof. Ayudante Doctor, Prof. Contratado Doctor and Prof. Univ. Privada (2019). I have taught at national and international universities: History and Archaeology BA Degrees (UCM, 2015-17); History BA Degree (UBA, 2022); History and Philology BA Degrees (UPV/EHU, 2023), University Course provided at the State Univ. of Paraná, State Univ. of Rio de Janeiro, Federal Univ. of Pernambuco and Federal Univ. of Mato Grosso do Sul in Brazil. Since February 2022 I have been working as a Lecturer at the University of Isabel I of Castile. Until the academic course 2022-23, I have mentored 8 Master's thesis and directed 7 Assessment Courts of 32 Master's theses.

Over 2015-2021 I have participated in the evaluation and accreditation of researchers, research projects and activities, supervision of PhD courses, Evaluation of Grants for Doctoral Research Staff Stays (BEST) and Grants for the Organisation and Outreach of Technological, Humanistic or Artistic International Conferences, Workshops and Scientific Meetings (AORG) with the regional agencies Fundación Madri+d, Agència per la Qualitat del Sistema Univ. de Catalunya (AQU Catalunya) and Agència Valenciana d'Avaluació i Prospectiva (AVAP). I am in the evaluators' database of all University Quality Rating Agencies in Spain, being currently recognised as an expert evaluator in the Bank of Collaborating Experts (BECA) of the State Research Agency (AEI) where I still continuing collaborating in this regard.

I am a member of the scientific associations Egiptología Complutense ( Complutense University of Madrid), Grupo Barbaricvm (Complutense University of Madrid) and HISTOREL (University of La Laguna), as well as a member of the Advisory Board of the Journal of Antiquities Nearco (Brazil), published by the Dept. of Ancient History of the Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (UERJ), ISSN 1982-8713 and reviewer of the journal New Classicist (Inst. of Classical Studies. Univ. of London). I am also a member of the extensive network of professionals that make up Divulgadores de la Historia, an association dedicated to promoting quality and rigorous dissemination of History in our society, and to extending knowledge of our past and our Historical Heritage. In this regard, I have collaborated in radio programmes (Cadena SER, RTV Principado de Asturias, Onda Madrid and Capital Radio), and in organising cultural events of international tourist interest for the defence of tangible and intangible heritage (Arde Lucus; Fiestas Iberorromanas de Cástulo; Arte et Marte).
